You probably think pen is the cheapest thing in the world, right? Wrong, at least not the ones in this list. Pens have never really been a sign of prestige, however looking at some of the most expensive pens in the world; one may like to rethink it as a status symbol.

1. Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece, priced at $730,000
Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece is a pen possibly the most expensive one of its kind. Jointly created by Mont Blanc and Van Cleef & Arpels, the amazing work of art has 840 diamonds and 20 carats of gem stones set in a way that is known as “Mystery Setting” with artfully hidden settings. Designed over a period of eighteen months, with rubies, sapphires or emeralds there are three versions in total of nine pieces.
2. La Modernista Diamonds
Made in 1999 by a Caran d’Ache of Switzerland La Modernista Diamonds is one more among classy pens that fetched $265,000 at Harrods London. Made of rhodium-coated solid silver parts and 18 carat gold nib coated with rhodium it has 5,072 Wesselton diamonds and 96 rubies. The Robert Perron work of art was completed in six months.
3. Ripple H.R.H. Limited Edition
This fountain pen the Visconti product is not just a pen, it’s a masterpiece of excellence, technique and imagination. Containing 18 carat white gold and diamonds a two-tone 18 carat nib it is valued at $57,000. The unique feature is its filling method with two containers. It is available in two versions viz. white gold and black. Notable of Visconti art work is Forbidden City H.R.H. Limited Edition fountain Pen. Costing $42,200 it is made of black resin it has 18 carat gold and diamonds and Power Filler ink filling method, a unique Visconti creation.
4. Grayson Tighe Limited Edition
Grayson Tighe is a known German pen maker. Their Grayson Tighe Limited Edition fountain and roller ball pens range between $22,000 and $24,000. The Gold is carefully turned ornamentally, an age old system of garnishing objects turned on lathe. Their nibs are traditionally hand-made containing 18 carat yellow gold engraved in Acanthus leaf and Iridium tip.
5. OMAS Limited Edition
Costing $16,500 apiece, OMAS Limited Edition pens are an unusual Greek artwork with only 50 pieces available. Made in Corinthian style by Lysicrates, the tube is prominently carved in Laocoon pattern.
